The FC Bayern Munich basketball team won their first competitive game under new head coach Gordon Herbert. The defending champions defeated Niners Chemnitz 73:59 (36:28) at home in the opening game of the German Basketball League (BBL). Herbert, the former national team coach, was observed by his successor Álex Mumbrú, who saw a strong defensive performance from Bayern. Chemnitz had more turnovers than field goals at the end of the first quarter. However, the visitors closed an 8:15 deficit to 16:16 by the end of the quarter. Chemnitz also struggled to score from the floor in the second quarter, having only scored once from the field midway through the quarter. On the other end, Devin Booker and international Oscar da Silva capitalized on their size advantage, leading Munich to a 36:28 halftime lead with a combined 20 points.
